Maria Whetman is a Devon-Cornwall border based jewellery-artist, designer-maker and educator. Making jewellery since 1989, designs are informed by the joy of exploring materials, surface designs, process, narrative, landscape and a love of detail. Recycled Silver and Fairtrade Gold is used. With an MA in "Design: Maker & Materials" from University of Plymouth, a PGCE from Cardiff University, and a BA.Hons in "3D Design: Jewellery" from Central Saint Martins, London, Maria has taught as a school teacher, lecturer in FE & HE and private tutoring, as a Design Technology Technician, a Science Technician a S.E.N.D TA, and has exhibited and sold her own work internationally, undertaking many private commissions over the years. She currently splits her time between her own practice at her workshop and making rescue equipment for kayakers at Whetman Equipment.
